St Mary's, Chiswick

Just metres away from a six-lane main road, St Mary’s in Chiswick was one of the most polluted schools in London.

A group of parents set up a project to tackle this issue and create a  safer school environment for the children.

After discovering that pollution levels can as much as halve just one road back from a main road, pupils decided to measure pollution and then create a map to show the low pollution routes to school.

The school was worried that the pollution that the pupils are exposed to when they arrive and leave school could be damaging their lungs, so they decided to launch an anti-idling campaign to clean up the air.
